Short Biography of Icksoo Kim
Dr. Icksoo KIM is Professor of International Business, College of Business Administration, Korea University, Seoul, and he was the Chairperson of the Dept. of International Trade at the same College in the March 1997-Jan 1999 period.

He received his Ph.D in International Economics with the thesis titled "Over-Investment in China: Sources and Processes, 1979-1988" from the University of Oxford in March 1991. Before joining Korea University in March 1995, he worked as a Research Fellow in the Division of Chinese Studies, the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), for almost four years. He used to be the head of the Center for Asian Business at Korea University and he is currently a member of the Government Advisor Group on Sino-Korean Economic Cooperation.

He taught the course of Dynamics of Asian Business in the PAMI in the 2nd Session of the summer term. And from September 2001 to August 2002, he visited the Center for Chinese Studies, University of California, Berkeley for a year. He also actively participates in various social and academic activities. He now works as the vice-president of the Northeast Asian Economic Association and was selected as the President of Contemporary China Academic Association in Korea.

He has published many papers including the "Political Economy of Investment Control in Post-1978 China," in China's Economic Reforms: The Costs and Benefits of Incrementalism, edited by Qimiao Fan and Peter Nolan (1994), pp.321-342, and he is also the co-author of "Vietnam and China: Choosing among Asian Models," World Competition: Journal of Law and Economics, vol. 17, no.3, March 1994. Most recently, in March 2002, he published a paper, "Accession into the WTO: External Pressure for Internal Reforms in China," in Journal of Contemporary China, vol.11, no. 32, August 2002, pp. 433 -458.

Dr. Kim is the author of many books, most of which were published in Korean by the KIEP, Seoul. To name a few, China's Enterprise Groups: Current Status & Future Prospects(1992), China's Industrialization Strategy and Industrial Policy(1993), Japanese FDI in China: Major Features & Strategy (1993), The Potential Impact and Major Implications of China's Entry into WTO (1995), and China's Consumer Market: Structural Characteristics and Distributional Barriers(1995).

His current research interest includes marketing and localization strategies of foreign firms in the PRC and cross-cultural management strategies of East-Asian firms.
